Long linear rows of ornamental grasses dominant this landscape located on the northwest side of the campus in downtown Denver, Colorado. Sunken water quality ponds flank the main entrance to the building and rectilinear plant beds with groundcovers enclose a plaza space to the west of the entrance.
Saunders Office Building
Located in the Inverness Metropolitan Improvement District, the Saunders Office Building is dissected by a large concrete board formed wall. At the western edge of the site is a large modular block retaining wall with shrubs plantings and vines which grow both up the walls and cascades over the fronts.
The patio on the south side of the building is a focal point outside the building where the angles of the building are carried out into the landscape. The space is enclosed by smaller board-formed seat walls that match the larger board-formed accent wall of the building. Pocket spaces for tables and chairs surround a precast board-formed concrete fire pit and brick faced outdoor grill area. Honeylocust trees border the southern side of the patio creating shade in the summer.
Colorado State
University Stadium
The new on-campus multi-purpose stadium for Colorado State University brings student athletics and events closer to the main campus. Rectilinear landscape areas surround the stadium made up of bluegrass sod, crusher fines and wood mulch planting beds. At the main entrance, the letters “RAMS” is spelled out in brick pavers with names of donors and supporters of the new stadium. Buff sandstone boulders are scattered around the stadium creating accents in the landscape, the biggest accent being at the front of the stadium around the Rocky Mountain Rumble Ram statue.
Southshore Corner
Monument
Located at the intersection of South Powhaton Road and East Smoky Hill Parkway, the Southshore Corner Entry Monument welcomes visitors and homeowners to the Southshore development in Aurora, Colorado. Above the curved wall is a large aluminum “sailboat” artwork piece surrounded by perennial and shrub plantings with a backdrop of evergreens. In front of the wall is a half circular pool with the letters “Southshore” seemingly floating in the water and framed by seven fountain jets.
Healthsouth Rehabilitation
Hospital of Littleton
Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Littleton, located in Littleton, Colorado, offers comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services. The southern part of the site is made up of trees in native seed and maintained bluegrass sod edges. North of the building is a therapy garden, densely planted with trees, shrubs and perennials. Mounded berms, with trees and shrubs, enclose the north edge of the site.
Children’s Hospital Colorado
South Campus
Children’s Hospital Colorado – South Campus, located in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, offers expert pediatric care and diagnostic services. The landscape is highlighted by ornamental grasses and boulders at its entryway and parking lot. Meandering pathways, circular gardens and a sports therapy field are located on the western side of the property.
Boulevard Streetscape
Located at the intersection of Telluride Street and Green Valley Ranch Boulevard, this section along Green Valley Ranch Boulevard provides an entryway landscape into the Oakwood Homes Community.
To the west of the project is a large monument, identifying the Green Valley Ranch area. Surrounding the monument are sweeping arches of ornamental grasses; each row providing different textures and colors to enhance the signage.
The landscape along the boulevard consists of large blocks of planting made up of ornamental grasses and deciduous shrubs. Scattered throughout the landscape are large deciduous tree for shade. All of these create color and vertical variations in the landscape and provides a visually interesting streetscape to enhance Green Valley Ranch Boulevard.
Landmark Tower Pool & Club
The Landmark Tower Pool and Club is located at the southwest corner of The Village Shops at the Landmark in the Denver Tech Center area of Colorado. 135 condos make up the Landmark Tower and it includes a number of high end residential features.
One of these features is a 4th Floor Pool Deck which faces the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Here residents can enjoy patio seating and a small pool to watch the sun set at the end of the day.
At the ground level is a large rectilinear pool and two-sided fountain, one side facing the private pool area and the other side facing the main entry plaza. An additional water feature is located at the center of the main entry plaza.
The biggest challenge that faced Environmental Landworks was the installation of large caliper linden trees. These trees were selected to have immediate inpact on the project and ranged from 9″ to 14″ in caliper size.
Hewitt Foundation Healing Garden
The Hewitt Foundation Garden was built in 2010 and consists of a variety of landscape and hardscape elements. Located at the center of the Littleton Adventist Hospital Campus, this half-acre garden is made up of a series of meandering concrete walkways. The east side of the garden is anchored with a large spherical pondless water feature and on the west, a sloped walkay with custom metal railing meets the garden. The central focus of the garden is a native grass mound with monolithic natural stones scattered on it’s slopes. This area of the garden is duly named Perspective Point and from this location one can see the entire Healing Garden.

Spring Mesa Ponds
Located just south of the Pattridge Open Space the Spring Mesa Ponds were designed to bring nature into the community and provide stormwater drainage. However the original construction of the ponds area was failing. Areas of the pond were containing water and allowing it to stagnant and the natural look to the area was degraded.
In the construction of the new ponds, larger boulders were brought in to anchor the edges of the pond and sod was put in to creep to the edge of the water, giving the pond a much more natural look and feel. The pump systems controlling the discharge of water were fixed and modified to provide a constant flow. Concrete wiers were also added to create waterfalls where the pond meets the pathway, providing both visual and auditory enjoyment for those that visit the open space.
